10. Chamera I Dam
Chamera I Dam in Himachal Pradesh lies at the height of 140 m, making it one of the highest in the country. Completed in 1994, the dam lies over River Ravi and provides for the need of hydro electricity in the area.
9. Baglihar Dam
Featuring next on the list of top 10 highest dams in India ever is the Baglihar Dam, a hydro electric dam built in 2009 over River Chenab in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The height of this dam is 143 m.
8. Ranjit Sagar Dam
Sharing the spot with the last entry, with the same height of 145 km is the famous Ranjit Sagar Dam in the state of Punjab. It was built in 1999 over River Ravi and is also 145 m high. The multipurpose dam is meant to serve the functions of irrigation, production of hydro electricity and flood control.
7. Srisailam (NSRSP) Dam
Srisailam (NSRSP) Dam is a hydro electricity and irrigation project constructed over River Krishna in Telangana state and it dates back to 1984. The total height of this dam is 145 m.
6. Sardar Sarovar Gujarat Dam
Another under construction dam to be included in the list of top 10 highest dams in India is the Sardar Sarovar Gujarat Dam, irrigation cum hydro electric dam which is being made over River Narmada. The dam will reach a height of 163 m once it is completed.
